What to do with the bill of sale once it’s printed

Florida title transfers go through Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV). Follow these steps in order.

  1. Fill in every field on the bill of sale, including odometer reading and odometer status.
  2. Both seller and buyer sign and date. Florida does not require notarization for standard private sales.
  3. Print two copies — one each for buyer and seller.
  4. Seller files a Notice of Sale (Form HSMV 82050 — same form, top section) with FLHSMV to release liability.
  5. Buyer brings the signed title, this bill of sale, proof of insurance, and fees to a county tax collector office within 30 days.
