What to do with the bill of sale once it’s printed

Washington title transfers go through Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL). Follow these steps in order.

  1. Fill in every field on the bill of sale.
  2. Both parties sign and date. Washington does not require notarization for private vehicle sales.
  3. Print two copies — one each for buyer and seller.
  4. Seller files a Report of Sale (online at dol.wa.gov) within 5 business days to release liability.
  5. Buyer brings the signed title, this bill of sale, and fees to a Washington DOL office or vehicle licensing subagent within 15 days.
