What to do with the bill of sale once it’s printed

Ohio title transfers go through Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV). Follow these steps in order.

  1. Fill in every field on the bill of sale, including the odometer reading.
  2. Do NOT sign the title yet — Ohio requires the seller's signature on the title to be notarized. Sign in front of a notary.
  3. Both parties sign and date the bill of sale (notarization of the BOS itself is not required, only the title).
  4. Print two copies — one each for buyer and seller.
  5. Buyer takes the notarized title, this bill of sale, ID, and fees to a County Clerk of Courts Title Office within 30 days.
